LTR-450 AFR Test.

The test was done at Crow Canyon, Urichsville Ohio thanks Jeff for the use of this great track.

The purpose of this test was to verify the AFR on the LTR under a load. The test site is 250 foot long 40 degree angle hillclimb.
We used the Innovate LM-1 AFR wideband data logger to record the runs.

We did the testing in 2nd gear for a reason, we wanted to verify that the testing done on the dyno in 2nd and 4th gear would be the same in the field under “real world” conditions. The runs in 2nd gear were exactly the same as the runs in 4th gear we used this because our filming was the cleanest.
ALSO NOTE: The third run in wide open throttle position shows the machine hitting the rev limiter thus showing the big spikes on the AFR readout.

It is a bit hard to follow but there is a timeline on the bottom of the AFR chart it starts at ZERO and moves right in 5 second increments to 55 then 1.0 1.5 and on.
I will explain following the timeline what is going on so that you can follow and understand what is going on.
You can also see the realtime AFR on the gauge on the top left.

The rolling chart shows AFR in realtime, 12.5~13.5 is a good power making AFR
14.7 is the universal known value for somewhat optimum AFR.
The lower the number the RICHER the AFR, the HIGHER the number the LEANER AFR.
Example:
10.2 is super RICH
16.0 is super LEAN.

SECONDS of time:
5 to 10sec. Rider starts up the hill (second gear) in ¼ throttle position. The AFR was 12.8~13.2
25 sec. rider reaches top of hill, machine sounds strong and powers up the hill.
25~40 rider comes down the hill off the throttle to idle, clutch in, engine reverts to 13.6~14.0
52~1.5 sec. rider starts up hill this time ½ throttle position. You can hear a strong exhaust note and he powers up the hill.
NOTE: there is some hitting the rev limiter as shown in the spikes on the timeline, if you watch the AFR it does not go lean or rich AFR stays in the 12.8~13.2 range.
1.6 min/sec rider starts up hill at WOT throttle position, NOTE: significant banging off the rev limiter, as expected, but AFR does not go out of range.
At the end of the runs we measure the headpipe temperature, it reads 475 degrees.
