Pickens takes Holeshot: Knox and Wolf take 1 and 2

This weekend at the John Penton GNCC in Millfield, OH showed some of the 'same old' but with some surprises. Just like previous years, the rain came down on the John Penton, making it an extremely slick and slippery track. In fact, just minutes before the start of the race, there was a huge down pour with high winds. The rain was so bad the race had to be moved from the 1PM time.

Once the race finally started, XC1 Pro HMF Team Rider Jeffery Pickens took the $250 Motorcycle-USA.com holeshot award. There was a close battle for 3rd place at the end between Adam McGill and HMF Rider Don Ockerman. Ockerman just missed 3rd place by 2 seconds. "It was kind of slow motion, and I stayed under the bike so no one would run over me," said Okerman. "But I was able to make up time pretty quick. I biked the track yesterday and so I kind of knew it and I moved up pretty good."

In the XC2 race, HMF team riders Corbin Knox and Brian Wolf battled it out for the entire race. Each rider got off to a slow start, but moved up to the front of the pack by the end of the race. Corbin Knox took his first XC2 podium with an overall win.

"This is unbelievable, I'm still in shock," said Knox. "I had a horrible start and I think I was dead last off the start. Brian [Wolf] must not have got a good start either and I hooked up with him and I knew if I stayed with him I would do alright."

"I never looked at the score board when I went through scoring, and I never knew what position I was in," added Knox. "I had mud all over my contacts and I couldn't see, so I rode with one eye closed for most of the race and I just kept pushing."

All in all, the HMF team put on a good show at the John Penton GNCC. We took 1 and 2 on the XC2 podium, and the holeshot in XC1 class. Off to the next round!
