Removal

!!! WARNING !!! Before working on your machine, make sure it is parked on a level surface with the transmission in park and/or the parking brake engaged.

Do not work on any machine with a hot engine or exhaust.  Allow time for all parts to cool in order to reduce the risk of burns.

Blackout Exhausts: Take care not to get grease or oils on the exhaust.  Cleaning our Blackout exhaust with harsh solvents, abrasives, or pressure washers will remove the coating and is not covered under warranty.

1. To make removal of the original silencer easier remove the (7) small bolts securing the heatshield above the silencer.  Save the heatshield and hardware, it will be reinstalled later.

2. Loosen the clamp between the headpipe and the inlet pipe of the original silencer.(See Figure #1)

3. Remove the bolt for the exhast support just behind the previously loosened clamp.  Save this hardware it will be reused during installation of the HMF exhaust.

4. Unplug and unclip the oxygen sensor from the vehilce's wiring harness.

5. Carefully pull back on the silencer to disconnect it from the head pipe and remove it from the vehicle.

Tip: It may be necessary to apply a small amount of lubrication to the silencer's mounting pins to make is easier to pull them through the rubber grommets.  Silicone spray, grease, or similar works well.

Installation

1. Transfer the oxygen sensor to the HMF midpipe.  It is recommended to apply a small amount of anti-seize to the threads of the sensor being careful not to get any product on the sensor.

2. Slide the provided #55 T-Bolt Clamp onto the smaller diameter end of the midpipe then install the mid-pipe onto the original headpipe.  Do not tighten the clamp.

3. Loosely re-install the hardware for the support as shown.  Do not tighten.(See Figure #2)

4. Lightly lubricate the mounting pins for the HMF silencer and install the silencer making sure to line up the midpipe and silencer inlet.  The two pipes should seat into one another fully as shown.  Wipe off any excess lubricant once the silencer is installed.(See Figure #3)

5. Install the provided (2) Long Springs between the silencer and mid-pipe.

6. Check for proper alignment and clearance then tighten the hardware for the mid-pipe support then the clamp between the midpipe and headpipe.

7. Connect the oxygen sensor back into the wiring harness and secure it in the same way it was originally.

8. Reinstall the heatshield above the HMF silencer with the original (7) bolts.(See Figure #4)

Wipe off any fingerprints or markings using a soft cloth and mild detergent such as soap and water or glass cleaner without ammonia.  Once the exhaust heat cycles any oils left on the exhaust may permanently imprint.

If you received a stainless steel exhaust without the Blackout coating it is normal for the pipes to change color as they heat cycle.

The HMF Blackout exhaust will smoke and put out an odor for the first full heat cycle as the coating goes through its final curing process.  It is recommended to allow this process to happen in a well ventilated area.

All systems will produce a smoke out the end cap after a short initial heat cycle, this is the packing material bedding in and is completely normal.

Until the exhaust has been heat cycled a few times small exhaust leaks may be noted at any of the connection points or from the rivets on the silencer.  This is normal and usually goes away after a few hours of run time.
