Removal

***Before working on your machine make sure it is parked on a level surface with the transmission in park and/or the parking brake engaged.

***Do not work on any machine with a hot engine or exhaust, allow time for all parts to cool in order to reduce the risk of burns.

Cargo bed removal is optional but will make access to exhaust components much easier. Cargo bed removal is made up of disconnecting the gas strut, disconnecting the wiring going to the bed (connector located at rear on intake plenum), and removing the pivot pin bolts.  Have a second person help steady and remove the bed.

1. Disconnect the oxygen sensor plug located under the exhaust.  The connector going to the main wiring harness is secured to the frame. (See Figure #1)

2. Remove the two bolts holding the rear portion of the exhaust to the head pipe.  Save the springs, they will be used later during installation.

3. Remove the three upper main heat shield bolts to allow the heat shield to move down slightly.  This will help prevent damage to the oxygen sensor as the exhaust is being removed.(See Figure #2)

4. Disconnect the muffler from the three rubber hangers and carefully remove the muffler.  Pay special attention to the oxygen sensor; do not let it, or the wiring become damaged while removing the exhaust, the wiring will have to be routed through the heat shield.

5. Inspect the OEM donut gasket on the headpipe.  If worn or damaged replace with a new one.

(See Figure #3)

Installation

1. Transfer the oxygen sensor from the stock muffler to the HMF muffler.  A small amount of anti seize is recommend on the threads of the oxygen sensor.

2. Bring the muffler into place.  Pay attention to route the oxygen sensor wiring back through the heatshield.  Align the HMF inlet with the OEM headpipe and donut gasket. Use one of the rubber hangers to keep the HMF exhaust in place.  Plug the oxygen sensor connector back into the wiring harness.

3. Using the springs saved from disassembly use the provided (2) 10mm x 60mm Shoulder M8 Bolts and (2) 3/8” USS Washers to secure to inlet flange of the HMF exhaust to the OEM head pipe flange.  The springs should be compressed as pictured.(See Figure #4)
